Studies Show the Right Bedroom Environment Influences Sleep

On average, we spend around a third of our lives sleeping, which equates to around 200,000 hours of sleep. You need to find the best possible bed if you want to sleep well and feel refreshed when you wake up. There are so many options out there, from the humble sofa bed to the king size bed and more, so it may be hard to know where to begin. Our article describes some of the bed options out there and the features you might want to look for while shopping.
A solid bed frame is required for a comfortable, deep sleep. There are a few different types of beds to select from, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks. You’ll also want to think about price, storage space, and how easy the bed will be to construct. Continue reading for our top recommendations.

Choosing the ideal bed frame: divan, storage, or bedstead?

Are you looking for a bed with space-saving storage to fit in a smaller bedroom or an aesthetically pleasing four-poster bed that nonetheless won’t take up too much space in your room? The most obvious and noticeable item of furniture in your bedroom is going to be your bed, so it’s important to pick one that complements your needs.
Storage beds, divan beds, and bedsteads are the three most common types of beds. Continue reading to learn more about the distinctions and what their pros and cons are.

Storage beds

What is the definition of a storage bed? Storage beds, as their name suggests, provide plenty of handy storage beneath the bed. They’re ideal if you don’t have a lot of room in your bedroom but still want something stylish.
One of the most basic styles is a bed base that incorporates pull-out drawers. An ottoman bed, on the other hand, has a piston-assisted lift mechanism, which raises the mattress from the foot of the bed to reveal a handy storage area below it.

Pros and cons of storage beds

The main advantage of a bed that incorporates storage is that you can hide a lot of things away to remove clutter from your room, making it ideal for smaller bedrooms where you can’t fit a lot of other furniture.
However, while a divan base that incorporates drawers is relatively flexible, an ottoman bed can be difficult to move around the room for vacuuming and so on because they are large and very heavy.

Divan beds

We mentioned divan beds in the context of storage above, but what else characterises a divan bed, and what are the different types? In essence, it’s one of the most popular and basic types of beds available. You buy the base and then add a mattress that suits you. Depending on what you need and what you can afford, you could also add a headboard if you want. Divan bases fall into two types:
•    Divans with pocket-sprung springs in the base, which provide a more comfortable top and greater support.
•    Divans that are cheaper, such as platform-top divans, which contain hardtops and will offer a more solid feel. It’s worth bearing in mind, though, that the overall firmness of the bed will be most influenced by the type of mattress you pick.

How much does a divan bed cost?

Expect to pay between £150 and £300 for a single divan base. Doubles and king size bed sizes generally range from £300 to £3,000.

The pros and drawbacks of divan beds

In their favour, as the most popular style of bed, they tend to be less expensive than other types of beds. They come in a variety of sizes, styles, and storage options, so you are sure to be able to find the one that’s perfect for you and your room.
However, divan beds are typically less ornate than other types of beds and more functional than attractive. Also, bear in mind that not all divan beds provide additional storage.

Bedsteads

What is the definition of a bedstead? Bedsteads are made out of slatted frames rather than a solid base like a divan. They’re generally constructed out of metal or wood, and the typical component parts include a base, the legs, and a headboard.
A bedstead can be a fantastic alternative if you’re searching for a piece of furniture that makes a statement in your bedroom. A traditional pine bed, for example, is available in many different colours, finishes, and designs. You could even opt for a luxurious four-poster if you have the room. Bedsteads can either be plain, made of the same material as the rest of the bed, or upholstered for extra comfort, padded and covered in, say, genuine or fake leather.

Pros and cons of bedsteads

The advantages of bedsteads are that you tend to have more choice in the way the bed looks – there are plenty of designs, finishes, and materials to choose from. Added to that, there’s no need to buy a separate headboard as this is incorporated into the design. And finally, there are different types of slats, enabling you to choose a harder or more flexible feel according to your taste.
The possible disadvantages are that they don’t incorporate built-in storage, so anything you hide away underneath can look chaotic and attract dust. Also, unlike divan beds, a bedstead will be delivered in pieces, and it’s often up to you to put it together. Finally, they tend to be more costly than divan beds.

Sofa beds

The last type of bed we’ll look at today is the sofa bed. What exactly is a sofa bed? It’s a flexible bed that folds up and becomes a sofa when not in use.
Compact sofa beds are ideal for use in a spare room and for occasional use by sleepers. You might, for instance, have one for overnight guests or for kids’ sleepovers. The majority of sofa beds are made to accommodate two sleepers, and some are corner-shaped to act as a functional yet space-saving piece of furniture.

Choosing the right bed

Take a look at each of the products and their designs individually to see which appeals most to you. When testing out a bed in-store, lie down on it, just as you would on your own bed at home, so that you can assess how comfortable it is. The mattress should mould itself to your body while also supporting it if possible. When you’re buying a bed for two people, make sure you both go together to try out the options.
What type of mattress is the most comfortable? It’s critical to get the right mattress, so you get a restful night’s sleep while your body is properly supported. A firm mattress isn’t always best for everyone. What you should rather be looking for is one that offers adequate support.
